How much is homeowners insurance?

What does homeowners insurance cover?
Homeowners insurance can include coverage for damage to the house, damage or loss of personal property, personal liability to others, and additional living costs if your home is uninhabitable.
Will my homeowners insurance cover water damage in my basement?
It depends. First, you must have a sewer or drain backup endorsement on your policy. Second, the water damage is only covered if the sump pump fails or water is coming through drains. Water damage is not covered if it’s due to flooding. That would be covered under a separate flood insurance policy.
My neighbor slipped on my sidewalk and broke his arm. Is that covered under homeowners insurance?
Yes, your medical payments coverage will kick in to pay for the medical bills of the injured neighbor. If you were found to be negligent, your liability coverage will apply instead of medical payments.
Does homeowners insurance cover wildfires?
Yes, wildfires are covered under a standard homeowners policy. Acuity uses a wildfire tool to evaluate the likelihood of loss based on property features and other dwellings in the surrounding area. In addition, wildfire risk mitigation actions taken by a customer may be considered when determining if a dwelling meets guidelines. Price does not vary due to wildfire risk or mitigation.
Regardless of where you live, there are things you can do to help prevent wildfires and reduce the likelihood of damage or injury should a wildfire occur.
What do I do if I need to report a loss or claim?
Please contact us as soon as possible to report a claim via phone at 800.242.7666, our website, or through your local agent. When reporting a claim, have as much information available as possible, such as the date, time, and location of the incident, the names of the parties involved, if applicable, and their phone numbers and addresses. Taking photos or videos of the loss scene is also helpful.
